The Crow Gate

Location: Farmhouse on Dartmoor

Project Details

Made to sit in a gap in an ancient granite wall that forms the boundary of the garden of a Dartmoor farmhouse.

The Crow Gate was hand forged and has a semi matt painted finish.

The idea was to create something that would link the civilised garden with the wild and magical open moor beyond. The grasses and forged leaves filled the body of the gate, relating to the terrain beyond, while the crow hinted at the danger that might lay in wait out on the wind swept moor.

The Art Nouveau style arch took elements and reflected a similar aesthetic to the Gate.

Each begins with a conversation about scale, context and installation.

From concept sketches through to fabrication and placement, every piece is developed with its setting in mind.
